The unincorporated area of Rowland Heights is approximately 20 miles south-east of Los Angeles. It has approximately 50,000 residents comprised primarily of middle- and upper-middle class single-family homes, which are part of the County of Los Angeles. It is surrounded by other suburban cities, such as Diamond Bar, Walnut, Hacienda Heights, and West Covina. Rowland Heights has its own school District with elementary, middle, and senior high schools. Rowland Heights features a large shopping plaza (Puente Hills Mall), the Schabarum Regional Park, a public library, large commercial centers, and a plethora of Asian shopping centers and markets. In addition, Rowland Heights is presently one of the most popular Asian communities in the greater Los Angeles area in part due to its many Asian Product supermarkets and Asian eateries along Colima road. It has become a center for Chinese commercial and cultural activity in the southeastern region of the San Gabriel Valley.
